Branding is one of the most difficult aspects of internet marketing because there is no real right or wrong way to brand. You must try many different titles and themes on your blog before you reach the perfect combination which will explode your stats. First and most importantly before you begin branding and trying new ideas it is a good idea to have traffic which will let you see the results of your tests. To build traffic with a blog there are many different ways and the best of course is continually producing great content making sure to stick with your niche. As your content grows attempt to acquire a few thousand backlinks by submitting to directories, social bookmarking, and commenting on other blogs. This is the easiest way to increase free website traffic and will also help you begin making money online.

Once you begin getting a little bit of traffic from search engines and social websites the next step is to find all the other blogs within your niche. As you look at these blogs see which ones are the most successful and which ones are doing just terrible. You can learn from both types doing what the successful ones are doing and making sure to not attempt to do what the blogging failures are doing. To understand the success of a blog I rely on three factors. The first is subscribers which you can only tell if they have put the number on their blog. If they haven’t then you can bet they probably don’t have many people subscribing to their blog. The second factor I rely on is search position. First search the title of the blog to make sure they are doing well for their title then search for terms which relate to their blog to see if they are in the top ten. The third and least important factor I rely on when trying to judge the successfulness of a blog is page rank. Page rank usually will tell you the number of backlinks pointing to the blog.

Now once you have checked the blogs and seen some you think are doing quite well are they branding or SEOing. If they have keywords in the title and thousands of subscribers then you may want to think about using your most wanted key term. On the other hand if the most successful blogs do not have keywords in the title, but more personal terms then you may want to give up the SEO aspect and create a title/name for your blog that is catchy. This will be difficult and you may give up a little bit in the search engines, but if your blog grows subscribers quicker it will be worth it. This is why testing is so important you should see what gets you noticed the quickest and once you find what works stick with it. Sometimes it will be using an SEO term and sometimes not.

Blogging can be excellent way to make money online. It can also be a tremendous waste of time if you don’t do it correctly.

Writing a blog article and not telling people about it is one way to waste your time. If you’re going to blog more often you want to social bookmark you log post and get them out where people can find them.

You also want to add a variety of content to your blog on a regular basis. One way to do that is to increase the number of categories that your blog contains. Many times this will open up a whole new avenue of potential articles you can write about.

Here’s five other tips to help you blog better and more off!

1. Go with topics that you know very well. When choosing the topics to write about, it is extremely recommended that you pick those that you are an expert on.

This is not only to ensure that you’ll be able to offer your readers with quality content but also to speed up the writing process. You see, when you are very familiar with your topic, you will not need to perform an extensive research that can surely take so much of your writing time as you’ll have a solid idea on what information you need to include in your content.

2. Improve your key boarding skills. If you want to thrive in this endeavor, you must not waste your precious time finding the right keys.

Instead, you must focus your attention on putting your thoughts and ideas into writing. Learn how to type faster by practicing everyday and by using reliable key boarding tools that are available online for free.

3. Be comfortable. You can write faster and you can produce quality content if you write some place where nobody can disturb you. This will allow you to focus on your thoughts and take advantage of your creative juices as they flow smoothly. Then you can really make money online

4. Use an outline. Another way to speed up the whole process is to make your writing well-guided. Organize all the information you have in hand and ensure that you arrange them in a logical manner.

When you have an outline that can guide you all throughout, you will not need to waste your precious time remembering the information that you have thought of earlier.

5. Outsource writing. If you want an aggressive method in increasing the number blog articles, I’d say visit freelancing sites and hire reliable people who can help you write your content for minimal fee.

If you follow a few of the pointers we’ve laid out in this article you will do a better job blogging. You’ll be more effective and you will want to do it more consistently. Ultimately this can help you make money blogging as well.

I have to say that the default theme provided with the latest versions of WordPress is far better than the themes provided up to version 2.9.2, but even still, on the whole it is not a choice for a serious website. Why? Well for the reason that you want to look unique. If you and thousands others are using the default theme then you are lost in the crowd of same looking sites.

Find free themes
The first thing to do is to search the internet for some good looking free themes to start of with. There are thousands to choose from, several on WordPress.org and others on a whole myriad of other websites. Take your time and find some that you like the looks of. I never merely choose one and start with that, because quite often what looks good on the sample looks totally varying when you install it. I have even download themes and installed them, only to find that they are not compatible with certain popular browsers.

So download some themes, unzip them to your computer and upload them to your website (if you haven’t done this before, you load the entire theme directory to wp-content/themes).

Install a theme
Now sign on as your admin user and go to appearance and look for one of the new themes. Click on it to preview and then select activate. Then have a look at your blog and see if it looks right. If you aren’t sure, activate one of the other themes that you have uploaded and try again.

Customise it!
The customisations available to you will depend on you theme as some have options for alternative header colours and so on. If this is your first theme that you have uploaded you will also need to go to settings and name yourblog and give it a description. “Merely another WordPress blog” proudly displayed on the top of your site does not give a serious impression!

Take a look at the side bars of you new look website and see what changes you want to make. You may like to go to the widgets section of the appearance menu and choose several widgets to install. You can choose widgets for a whole alternative array of options, let’s say different ways to display the archives. Personally, I like to have the archives available on every page, but depending on what you are doing with theblog this may not be needed. Have a look through the widgets and choose which you want to display and how.

If you are happy with a bit of PHP code then you could edit the code instead of using the widgets. For example, I always remove the Uncategorised category from the list of displayed categories (merely add &exclude=1). My reason being that if I am writing off topic then it is not so indispensable to link to it from everywhere.

Akismet
There is a reason that this plugin is now bundled with WordPress and that is because it is absolutely essential. You have to activate it by going to the WordPress website, signing up and then getting an API key, but there is no excuse for not doing this.

Without the Akismet WordPress plugin, spammers will be leaving comments on your weblog at will, with ease. You will be plagued by rubbish comments that you have to delete. So ensure you activate this plugin.

Broken Link Checker
New to my favourite selection, this is a great little plugin that keeps checking your posts for broken links. If any are found, let’s say a new post has an invalid link added or a website is deleted, which affects an present post, you are quickly warned. Invalid image links are also notified to you.

The benefits are that search engines and visitors are not coming across dead links and if you are linking to your own websites, then you are warned that the link needs changing.

WP Stats
I installed this one as part of another plugin. Previously I merely relied on Google Analytics, but since using WP Stats I have seen the light and realised that both of these packages work well together. WP Stats provides real time visitor tracking and ignores your own visits to the web site, so it is more accurate. It doesn’t provide the high detail that Google Analytics provides, but it does provide all of the indispensable stats you will need – reader source, popular pages and so on.

WP Popular Posts
This is the plugin that requires WP Stats and is really good for helping steer people round your web site. For new visitors you want to highlight those posts that do well with readers, so the Popular Posts plugin displays these to your readers. This might help convert a one time visitor into a regular visitor, which really ramps up your web site traffic stats!

Yet Another Related Posts Plugin
There are several related posts plugins, but this is the one I always use. Again, it is a plugin around getting readers to read more and hopefully enjoy your web site so that they decide to sign up for your RSS Feed or newsletter.

This one works by placing a selection of probably related posts at the bottom of the post that is being read, happening the theory that if they have merely read that post to completion similar writings may also be interesting.

Ultimate Category Excluder
A bit of a cheat, this one, but there are times when you decide to write something that is totally off topic and possibly you don’ need it displaying everywhere. For instance, I use UCE to prevent the posts in my uncategorised category from displaying in the RSS feed.

I do this so that readers of the RSS feed are just seeing the proper posts, those that are totally on topic. If I go off topic and mouth off aboutsomething, then these are not cluttering the RSS feed.

They are my six favourite WordPress plugins that I install to every new weblog I create. If you have any others that you like to use, leave me a comment!

I have a friend that started a blog because her brother had been in an accident and she new that the during the long term recovery plenty of people would be wanting weekly updates. Providing these individually would be difficult to everyone concerned. So she turned to blogging and a free host is what she needed.

Likewise, a few people are desperate to make a small extra income and do not want to splash out on the expenses of a web site, possibly not even on the small costs of a hosted web site. There are options to look at in these cases.

If your weblog is related to a specific hobby, then it is likely that there is a provider catering for blogs on that specific niche. RealBuzz, for example, caters for a variety of sports blogs including my interest of distance running. In fact, it is very specific and has sections for different main races. If you are blogging as a way of recording your training log and to keep you happening the training, then this sort of website is an exceptional way to start. With these niche specialists other bloggers blogging round the same event or sport will see your site listed whenever you post a new update so you should immediately have access to a good amount of visitors, for free.

But for most people WordPress.com or Blogger will be the free blog hosts of choice. Their systems are extremely flexible and well built with plenty of addons and plenty of ways to customise your site to make it feel your own. So, which do you select for your site?

Well to me, WordPress.com has a good community feel and by setting up a weblog there you will automatically tap into this and have access to various traffic from within the community. These flow of free traffic to your site immediately might be invaluable. But there is one problem for plenty of bloggers with this system – WordPress.com does not allow either advertising nor sponsored posting within this system. So it is no good if earning an income is your intention.

If you want to earn cash through a free blog, then Blogger is the place to be. It does allow adverts and sponsorship and even gives features for fast and straightforward integration to your Google Adsense account to monetise your blog. It is easy to set up and customisations are available to get the website looking just as you want it. For a weblog that is going to earn you cash, this is thefree host to use.

So, if you want to set up a weblog for free and there is not a community to join or you intend to be earning through the blog, then visit Blogger.com and get online there.

If you are starting a blog, what things must you consider first? Well, here is a collection to get you going, taking you from why you are blogging to blogging security.

Why do you want to website? – It seems daft, but put a reason to it now. Are you blogging to earn an income, to aid your business or just to share your thoughts with the world? You maybe know the answer, but confirm this for yourself and if there are several lesser reasons, keep them in mind later on.

What blogging platform will you use? – Blogger, WordPress.com, WordPress.org, a specialist platform or one of many others? Several are totally free, others leave you paying for hosting and several required you to pay for a load more. Bear in mind your purpose of blogging and how that integrates. If you are adding to an present site, then installing the blog onto the web site can be best. If you want to chat then a community website might be best. But remember not all free blogs allow advertising and so on.

How much do you want to share? – Once you start to write the information is out there and hard to revoke. Ensure that you are comfortable with what you are sharing. If you are getting very personal, it might be best to use a username that does not relate to your name and stay away from publishing photographs of yourself.

How secure is your blog? – After you have set up the site, ensure that it is secure. With free hosts that maybe only means selecting a very secure password. With self hosted blogs secure password, security pluggins, database backups, securehosting and more should be considered. This might make you change your mind round your planned hosting!

What do you want the website to look like? – Is it a personal web site or a business web site? A business web site should reflect the organisation’s reputation and outlook, but a personal web site can inject a few of your personality into the look. Depending on where you host the website you may find some admirable free templates to work from, especially onWordPress.org!

Where will you get visitors from? – How are you hoping people will start to find your blog? Search engine optimisation, commenting on other blogs or only being part of a community? Only because you start to write heaps of posts does not mean that you will automatically be getting a lot of readers. It takes loads of time and effort to get people visiting your website and you will feel that you are wasting your time if you are not getting readers.

Might you take insults? – If you are getting traffic to your site, then people might leave comments and these are not always that polite. If you cannot take insults, then it might be better to turn off all sort of commenting to protect your feelings!

There is ample more that you could be considering when you start a blog, but this little selection will do you for starters!

I recently was contacted about writing an article for Donald Trump’s new mlm business opportunity. They were willing to pay eight dollars for 100 words. That seems like a fairly short blog post but it did get me thinking.

All he was really looking for was someone to write a short review about his business opportunity and include a back link to it. Even the search engine optimization experts working for Donald Trump know the importance of creating backlinks.

You can take a couple of different approaches when you write blog articles.

1. One thing you can do is write real high quality content articles and write them as long as they need to be to get your point across. For serious bloggers who have a large readership sometimes you will see blog articles that are several hundred or even thousands of words.

My personal opinion is that it is a little long, but if your goal is to have a high content blog you don’t want to limit yourself in how long your articles are. Usually these type of bloggers are not really interested in selling products on their blog.

What they have done is create thousands of pages of really useful content that people enjoy reading. They do various forms of viral marketing to increase the number of readers coming to their blog.

They then turn around and make all of their money selling advertising to various sponsors. There are many examples of bloggers earning high six figure incomes doing nothing more than selling advertising as their only source of income.

2. If you are trying to get noticed by the search engines you want to take a slightly different approach to your blog writing and marketing a blog efforts. You can write short blog posts of 100 to 200 words and make them helpful.

You don’t have time to waste a lot of words so this really helps you focus on the theme of the article you are writing. You might only target one key point in any article and you get right down to business without a lot of fluff.

In this type of writing you are concentrating on keyword phrases that can help you show up in the search engines. By writing more short blog articles you can increase the number of keyword phrases that you are targeting as the number of articles you write goes up.

With this style of a blog you are going to make money with it it in any way you can. You might sell affiliate products in the text of the body itself. You might also add banners on every blog post down the sidebar as well.

How many people are part time bloggers? I read somewhere that somewhere in the world a new blog is started every second.

Do we really have any idea how many blog posts are made every day?

I think there is in all probability conflicting statistics about blogging anyway. However there is one thing that I really do not understand and that is why do people start blogs and abandon them so quickly?

There certainly is a trend towards social networking today. Twitter for example is micro blogging.

These are short blog posts of 140 characters or less known as tweets. You can’t do a lot with them yet there was so much action when Michael Jackson passed away it brought the Twitter system down.

Facebook has millions of members and is an awfully active social networking site. It almost becomes the focal point of some people’s lives because they take it too seriously.

Back to the question about blogging however and that is why are blogs started and quit so quickly? One possible answer is not everybody is on the computer all the time. It does take a little bit of effort to login to your blog and post an article of a couple hundred words.

Some people start a blog with the idea that they are going to turn it into an Internet. They really want to make money online and blogging seems like a good way to do it.

When they find out how much work marketing a blog is they choose to stop.

Some people are busy! They may not even be aware that they can hire a blog writer to write content for their blogs. They also may not be aware of how to keep their blog up to date with various content feeds.

Certainly if you are going to start a blog you need to take the time to keep adding fresh content to it. This is especially true if you’re trying to make money with your blog. Search engines love fresh content and so do your readers.

I know when some people look at how good their competitors blogs are it discourages them. There are so many social media tools available now to make a blog really electrifying you need to step up and use some of them if you want to be noticed.

Certainly videos add a lot to a blog. Many bloggers are not informed they can go to You Tube and use the videos there on their own blog. They think they need to create videos of their own and that certainly seems like a lot of work so they do not even try.

So for whatever reason people start and stop blogs and this has happened right now as I have been writing this article. Hopefully you will stay faithful to your blog and get out of it what you started it for.

Why is it important to comment on others blogs?

Because it hels create recognition, it shows the other readers of that blog that you exist, I like to view this as a first impression, for both the readers of the blog AND the author of the blog. And the words you write within the comment should be thought out and add value to the blog post. Always remember people, first impressions. This is key when trying to understand proper blog commenting.

Many bloggers are only commenting to generate a backlink. But there is a big error in this way of thinking. If all you are attempting to do is impress the search engines with all your backlinks, then you are barking up the wrong tree. Most of the blog commenting sections are NOFollow. You might not know what this means so I will give you a brief idea of what NoFollow and Dofollw mean.

NoFollow links are backlinks to your site that are coded in a way that informs the search engines not to follow them. And while many search engine spiders do not follow this policy, what they do with this link is they add no value to your page rank, they follow the link and index your page, but you do not receive any of the link juice from this type of link.

DoFollow links are backlinks that carry weight to the search engines. If you build dofollow links on high page ranking sites, your page ranking will be effected, you receive a little bit of their “Link Juice”, These links are key to raising your own pagerank, but are not as easy to find as the nofollow links.

And there is a really good reason for all of this. Originally all links were followed. Back in the day every link carried value to it, but the result was spam, and I mean lots of spam. To fight that, the nofollow/dofollow tags were added to blog comment sections, because these were the biggest culprits to the spam that the search engines were finding.

So what is proper blog commenting?

Proper blog commenting means you are adding comments that give value. Your not just writing “Nice Blog”, or “Thanks” In order to generate a backlink. What you are trying to do with the comment it to intrigue other readers of the blog, or the blog writer to come and visit your own blog. And the reality is, in order to do this you need to make a mark, you need to make your comment insightful and real. It means you will actually have to read the blog post you plan to comment on.

It also means that your backlink should be able to be related back to the post you’re commenting on. It if is irrelevant, and has little to do with the blog post topic, the readers that see your comment will not have any interest in following your link.

This is one of the main goals you are looking for when you are blog commenting, that is focused and interested traffic that will spend quality time on your blog in order to learn about what you have to say. No matter what your topic may be.

Some Do’s and Don’ts of blog commenting
-Do take the time to read the post your commenting on.
-Do offer your personal insight, whether it is for or against the post

-Don’t use profanity.
-Don’t leave hollow comments like Nice Blog
-Don’t comment on blogs that are not relevant to your niche blogging market

So, I hope this helps with your understanding of what proper blog commenting is. If you follow some basic ideals you can really increase your blog traffic through comments. And while the search engines may not increase your pageranking just because you comment on a lot of blogs. It does offer a strong solution in creating quality inbound traffic that is in search of information that would be relevant to your blog.

Making money online has been a wish for millions across the world. In today’s web there are literally thousands of different ways to make money online. With the creation of blogger and wordpress starting a blog is one of the ways someone without web development experience can build a web presence and readership making it pretty easy to build and income. A blogger will of course first have to establish their blog as an authority using the creation of unique helpful well written content. The problem with starting a new blog is the same as any other presence. In the majority of cases it will take many months before Google and other major search engines begin trusting the web presence which means to rank well and build organic traffic will take some time.

Before your blog becomes the ultimate resource you will need content. The reason blogs do so well in search engines and within the social media world is they are usually constantly updated giving visitors a reason to subscribe to the content and come back over and over. This is great for people wanting to make money since no longer will they have someone visit their web presence once never to be seen again. The reason it is easier to make money with blogs is your subscribers hold a certain amount of trust and when you recommend a program or product they are much more likely to believe you compared with someone coming to your website for the first time. The key to building a readership for your blog is content creation. You will need to be producing content at the very least once a week and make the content well researched as well as provocative.

Don’t expect your readership or traffic to explode overnight with a couple of blog posts. In most cases it will take hundreds if not thousands of posts before you begin seeing traffic build. It is also necessary to begin marketing your website building links from external sources which will help your blog within the search engines. One rule I have found in blogging is external links are great, but the majority should come from link bait which means it is fine to spend a little time submitting your website to blog directories and social bookmarking, but if you really want to succeed making your content so good other webmasters and bloggers link to it is key. Learning all of this takes time and should be practiced on a regular basis. If possible spend time each and every day writing and writing. This is a great time to try different types of articles and writing styles. Make sure to track your reader stats and traffic stats to find which types of articles and styles provide the best results then attempt to duplicate the articles on different topics. Once you have a large readership making money will be as simple as including google adsense or an affiliate program closely associated with your niche.
