Blogging 101 - Short Introduction

This post is a short reference to the most commonly used blogging notions. So you can treat is as kind of small blogging vocabulary. For more detailed explanations on each topic, please read other posts on the blog - they will explain in details all important blogging topics.

Blog is short for weblog or online journal, diary, list of dated entries. In real life blog is a series of online posts presented in reverse chronological order and arranged by categories and subcategories.

Most blogs are textual blogs, but today - thanks to the advancement of technology - photo, audio and video blogs become very popular and easy even for a technically dumb person.

When setting up a blog, you will need a blogging platform. This is a script installed on the hosting and this script allows you to write posts and publish them on the blog. Upon your platform depends the functionality, the design looks and other elements of the success of your blogging.

The web host or hosting is like a virtual file cabinet where your blog is stored. Hosting is just like your PC, but has bigger storage space and functional capacities. On hostings web sites and blogs are stored. Any time you type some domain name into the browser, Internet connects you to the hosting of this site or blog and uploads texts, pictures, photos, videos or any other type of information from it.

The domain is the online address of your blog, and usually ends in ‘dot com’. But it can also end up with .info or .biz or .ws or .org or .edu and so on.
